Smith became an orphan by 19 years old at Barcelona, Spain because of a car accident which killed both of their parents and made them suffer a knee injury. They used their remaining money to get drunk every night despite having chronic insomnia and depression. During one of their escapades, they met Ms. Gonzaga, a former boss who adopted him immediately, hence the surname change. They moved to the Philippines in order to start a new life. She died a few years later but she managed to entrust them all of her wealth.

Smith found two siblings to take care of. They was also adopted and have a large but loving family. They then formed a family with their fiancé that they can happily call as their own with the person they love the most. Later on, they met the Castellanos and aside from being the best of friends, they become an adoptive family, hence the additional surname.
